PipeworkWhat is the recommended spacing for pipe clips?Pipe clips should located at intervals of no greater than 6 foot (1.8 metres).
What hole sizes should I drill? As a rule of thumb 1/8" (3mm) sampling holes with 4mm end caps can be used on small and medium sized pipe runs. A copy of PipeCAD pipe modelling software is available for download, free of charge for accurate sampling hole size calculation. This software allows the user to model a proposed design and accurately determine the appropriate hole sizes to use. Estimated response times are also generated for each calculation to ensure the design is compliant to the required specification.
What pipe can I use?AirSense Technology USA Limited can supply either orange UL 1887 CPVC 3/4" sampling pipe or red 3/4" ABS sampling pipe where temperatures are below 0 degree f. Pipe of the correct size together with the associated fittings required to create a suitable sampling pipe network for most applications. Regardless of which material is selected, sampling pipe should be smooth bore, have an internal diameter of 3/4" (22 mm) and an external diameter of 1" (27 mm).
What are remote capillary sampling points? In some applications it is not practical or aesthetically undesirable to locate pipe work within the risk, in these instances remote sampling points can be employed. The main pipe run is located within a ceiling void or such area, a "T" piece is used to interrupt the man pipe run and introduce one end of a 3/8" (10mm) flexible fire rated tube at the desired point. The 3/8" (10 mm) diameter capillary tube is then terminated with various fittings to provide an unobtrusive sampling point e.g. below a false ceiling. |

Stratos-HSSD 2Can I connect a Stratos-HSSD 2 to an existing series one Stratos-HSSD or Stratos-Quadra® system? The Stratos-HSSD 2 and Stratos-Micra detectors communicate with either a command module or P.C. Interface and remote display units (RDUs) via an RS485 data loop. Fitting an existing series one Stratos-HSSD or Stratos-Quadra detector with a DOM (Digital Output Module) allows that detector to be connected to the RS485 data loop.
What is the Current Consumption of the Stratos-HSSD 2?The maximum current consumption of the Stratos-HSSD 2 is 500mA at 24 Volts DC.
What is the maximum length of pipe I can use on a Stratos-HSSD 2?The maximum total length of pipe for the Stratos-HSSD 2 is 820' (250 meters), please note that this total should consist of up to four pipe lengths that are within 10% of each other, to obtain a reasonable flow balance between pipes i.e. 4 x (205' (62.5 meters) ± 10%). The maximum single length of pipe fitted to a Stratos-HSSD 2 should not exceed 328' (100 meters).
How many air handling units can I protect with a Stratos-HSSD 2?Each Stratos-HSSD 2 can protect a maximum of four standard sized air handling units, the best configuration for this application is one pipe per air handling unit. Each pipe should be spaced off from the return air register by a distance of 4 to 8 inches (100 mm to 200 mm). This reduces the effect of negative air pressure acting on the sampling pipe. A piped exhaust back may also be required to overcome the effects of pressure differential.
How do I interface a Stratos-HSSD 2 to a fire alarm panel? There are a variety of methods available for interfacing to a fire alarm panel. Supplied, as standard, with each Stratos-HSSD 2 detector are terminal connections for four programmable alarm levels and a common fault. All alarm relay outputs are volt free and normally open, the fault relay is normally closed to provide fail-safe operation. Also available as an option is a plug in Addressable Programmable Interface Card (APIC) please see "How do I interface to the fire alarm panel?" under FAQs for the Command Module for details. |
